4th ASEAN Plus Three Education Ministers meeting (4th APT EMM) convenes in Nay Pyi Taw

THE 4th ASEAN Plus Three (China, Japan and ROK) Education Ministers meeting (4th APT EMM) on Education was held, under the theme of “Promoting lifelong learning for ASEAN countries through conducting qualified education and trainings”, at the Kempinski Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, on Thursday.

Union Minister Dr. Myo Thein Gyi acted as Chair, Mr. Satoshi Ashidate, Deputy Minister of Japan for Tourism, Arts and Culture as Co-chair at the meeting.

The participants took part in the discussion and made the approval of academic criteria for student exchange programmes between the SAEAN countries and Plus Three (China, Japan and ROK) countries and promoting student exchange programmes. Other topics included academic exchange and China Scholarships for students of ASEAN countries, higher academic sector on peace and prosperity for ROK and ASEAN countries, e-learning and vocational training sectors.

In the afternoon, the 4th ASEAN and East Asia Summit Education Ministers (Australia, China, India, Japan and ROK) meeting continued and the participants held discussions with matters relating to quality assurance system between ASEAN member countries and Australia, quality assurance framework of the technological and vocational training schools in ASEAN regions, student exchange programmes for China, Japan and the US, scholarship schemes, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), establishment of a network for technological and vocational trainings for ASEAN region assisted by ROK.

At the meeting, the participants pledged to carry out the Manila Plan of Action to advance the Phnom Penh Declaration on the East Asia Summit Development Initiative (2018-2022) with the inclusion of 14 areas of cooperations through continuous joint efforts among the ASEAN member countries and its dialogue partners.

Following this, Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi presented the gifts to the attendees and concluded the meeting.—MNA
