Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi presided over a ceremony to launch a project on digital literacy for the online safety and resilience.
The ministry jointly initiated the project together with the Telenor Myanmar and the Plan International Myanmar at Mingalar Thiri Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
The project will be implemented by the Department of Basic Education, with a view on future socio-economic development of the country through education sector.
The Union Minister said that while many students and people have widely used internet and social media, and that the trend is calling for teaching internet literacy at the basic education schools to help Myanmar students keep abreast with their international counterparts in various sectors.
He also affirmed that the ministry will assist in implementation of this project.
Ms Lisc Nordgaard, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission from Norwegian Embassy in Myanmar, made a speech.
The Union Minister, the Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission and the officials inaugurated the project.
Telelor Group’s Senior Vice President Sustainability Ms Elisabeth Biering, Chief Business Officer Daw Yin Yin Htay, National Director of Plan International (Norway) Ms Kari Helene Partapuoli and its Country Director Mr Kelland Stevenson made greeting speeches.
A panel discussion was also held on the title of ‘Cooperation in Digital Myanmar and Building Foundation for Clever Use of Digital Literacy’ with the participants from the Plan International, the Department of Basic Education, the Telenor Myanmar, the Telenor Youth Forum, the Myanmar ICT for Development Organization and the KMD Computer.
The project is a part of safety school project, and aimed for safety in collecting information and for reduction of disparity to benefit online users. —MNA
