MoE, DFID, affiliate orgs discuss education development

The first steering committee meeting of Myanmar-UK Partnership for Education (MUPE) was held at the Ministry of Education in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

Firstly, Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi thanked the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) for cooperating on MUPE.

He said the Towards Results in Education and English (TREE), Assessment and Education Reform Support (AERS), and Evaluation, Evidence and Learning Component (EELC) were all 5-year projects. He said they would bring constructive changes to Myanmar’s education sector.
The Union Minister also thanked the DFID and other affiliate organizations for supporting the Strengthening Pre-Service Teacher Education in Myanmar (STEM), and cooperating on the Learning Together Project. He expressed his belief that MUPE will produce positive results for developing the education sector.

The affiliated organizations include British Council, Oxford Policy Management, IMC Worldwide, UNESCO, UNICEF and Myanmar Education Consortium.

Next, Ms Becky Richard of DFID delivered an address, followed by various project coordinators explaining their progress.

Afterwards, MoE department officials and MUPE officials discussed further cooperation in the education sector. —MNA
